Pumphouse Dry Vault Installation

Excavated cut in the ground is 27" wide by 35" long by 15"deep. Pour of initial concrete, shown above. Continued pour of concrete, approx. 4" thick (2 cubic feet of redi-mix concrete) fills entire excavated hole. Place (4) 3/8" diameter lenghts of rebar into the pour. Position them so they are completely embedded in the pour. This will provide strength and reduce, if not eliminate, cracking of the concrete.

Pumphouse box is then nestled into pour, embedding bottom flange of box into pour approx. 1" deep. Level & tamp box into position. Note oozing of concrete around flange. The balance of redi-mix concrete (approx. 1 cubic foot) is then shoveled & troweled around the outside perimeter of the box encasing the bottom flange of the box into the pour of concrete.

The box and its lower flange is now fully encased in the pour of concrete. The inside floor has been troweled flat with a finished dimension of 15" from the floor surface to the top of the box. It is of paramount importance that the inside edge of the pour of concrete be finish troweled up to the inside vertical wall of the pumphouse to create a meniscus finished edge. This will aid in creating a water tight floor. By finishing the inside surface smooth with a finishing trowel, you will increase the likelyhood of achieving a water tight floor. A swale can be created in the concrete to provide more vertical plumbing room for such pumps as Sequence 1000, Performance Pro, Cascade, or equival length pumps. Pump & strainer basket shown here ready to plumb into box. Bulkhead fittings allow entrance & exit of plumbing through box wall with the use of flexible pipe. (Sequence 750 series pump with P357 Leaf Trap shown inside pumphouse, above. Sequence 1000 series, Performance Pro Cascade series and equal length; pumps can be installed in this pumphouse with our P3571 leaf trap. It is a close fit lenghwise. It does require the removal of several plastic reinforcement fins inside the end the box. This can be accomplished with the use of a small barrel sander and a Dremel motor tool. A street 90 degree fitting threaded into the discharge port of the pump is recommended. This will save vertical plumbing space inside the box. We highly recommend flexpipe for all plumbing inside the box.

The above picture shows a Sequence 1000 series pump installed in the PH1324C pumphouse. The strainer basket is outside the pumphouse. This is an alternative plumbing set up from the above description.

  1. C218 2" bulkhead fitting. Fitting allows for watertight passage of pipe through wall fo pumphouse.
  2. 2" male adapter threaded into C218 2" bh fitting.
  3. Note the use of 2" ABS long sweep 90° fittings. This particular installation required a minimum friction loss in the 70 ft. run of pipe., hence the use of friction reducing fittings.
  4. Note the use of C249 combination unions.

Also note the continued use of ABS long sweep 90° fittings to reduce friction loss.
